Mozan/Urkesh Prize for Best Heritage Conservation Paper

     We are pleased to announce the call for the Mozan/Urkesh Prize for Best Heritage Conservation Paper".
     We are looking for original papers from undergraduate students in the first and second year who are enrolled at Syrian universities and institutes from different disciplines: archaeology, history, literature, engineering, media, and tourism.
     A committee from the Mozan/Urkesh Archaeological Project will select the best papers from submissions by November 27th, 2020 at 6 pm, Syria time; the winners will be announced on December 31st, 2020.

Eligibility:
     Applicants must be enrolled as a first or second-year undergraduate student at a Syrian university/institute in the fields of archaeology, history, literature, engineering, media, and tourism, for the academic year 2020-2021. Winners will need to present enrolment evidence.

The topic:
     The paper should address at least one of three topics:

  1. A review of the approach to conservation and public outreach as proposed by the Mozan/Urkesh Archaeological Project, with a consideration of applicability to other projects/regions;
  2. An evaluation of the project with suggestions about possible new activities to be undertaken along the same lines, with a focus on including a wider and more diverse audience;
  3. A statement about the meaning of heritage conservation, as evidenced at Mozan/Urkesh, for you personally and for Syria as a whole.

Submission:
     A paper of 1000 words in length (excluding bibliography) with proper references should be submitted as an electronic version (in pdf format) to: prize.urkesh@gmail.com.
     Papers are accepted in either Arabic or English.
     In the subject line of your email please write: Mozan/Urkesh Prize for Best Heritage Conservation Paper 2020
.      In the body text of your email please write:

  • Your full name as it appears in your identity card or passport;
  • The name of your university and the department: ex. Aleppo University - Department of Archaeology;
  • The academic level: ex. Second-year undergraduate;
  • The title and the full name of your professor/supervisor at your university who is supervising your submitted paper.
Deadline:
     The deadline for submission is November 27th, 2020 at 6 pm, Syria time.

Announcing Winners:
     The winners will be announced on December 31st, 2020.

Awards:
     The prize winners will receive a certificate of recognition and:
  • first prize: 400,000 SYP
  • second prize: 300,000 SYP
  • third prize: 200,000 SYP
